Experimental study on single grit grinding of Inconel 718 . By TT Opoz and X Chen. Abstract. This article presents an important investigation of material removal mechanism in grinding utilizing single grit scratch tests. The investigation helps people to understand the abrasive cutting behaviour when the abrasive cutting edge shape alters ...

From Fig 6 it is seen that the specific grinding energy of Inconel 751 superalloy varies from 200 to 2000 J/mm 3 for dry condition. Such a wide variation in specific grinding energy reflected on the severity of process due to thermal influence, owing to heat resistant Inconel and bond dynamics making Inconel 751, a difficult to grinding metal.

The grinding process has been investigated in the machining of Inconel 718 with GC, WA and CBN grinding wheels. The machinability discussed here includes surface roughness, dimensional accuracy, grinding force, grinding-wheel wear and grinding-wheel life.

The present work is an attempt to model the components of specific grinding energy in a pragmatic manner. This work explores the contribution of specific energy constituents such as shearing, primary rubbing, secondary rubbing, and ploughing energy while grinding Inconel 718 (IN-718) superalloy.

Inconel 718 has been widely used in industries because of its excellent mechanical properties. However, the machining process, particularly the turning/grinding, of Inconel 718 is still costly due to high cutting force and heavy tool damage. Fortunately, a promising material removal technique, that is, ultrasonic-assisted turning/grinding (called UAT/UAG for simplicity), could potentially play ...

Jun 23, 2014· The methods of grinding of Nickel based alloys like Inconel alloy 600, Inconel alloy 601, Inconel alloy 625, incoloy alloy, Monel alloy etc do not vary significantly in the operations that are used for steel. When a nominal content of metal is removed, the finishing task can be performed on a grinding machine by using a tough and fine grind.

The results of this study proved that finish grinding of additively manufactured, nickel-based superalloys, such as Inconel 718, can be successfully employed to achieve a reduction in surface roughness of approximately 94 percent when measured parallel to the grind lines and approximately 34 percent when measured perpendicular to the grind lines.

Since grinding comprises both cutting and sliding, it is necessary to provide a balanced environment of heat extraction and lubrication. Thus it requires a controlled grinding environment such as MQL. The current study is an experimental investigation on the significance of the MQL parameters on grinding performance of Inconel 751.

The machinability of Inconel 718 has received rather limited attention, so that understanding its behavior in the grinding process is therefore of vital importance. Grinding burn in steel workpiece materials was ob- served by Peklienik [2] and Yoshkawa [3-1 to occur when the wear fiat area reaches a critical value.

Inconel718 is widely used in the aerospace industry; the finished surface quality has significant effect on service performance of component. The surface integrity in grinding Inconel718 respectively by using a vitrified bond single alumina (SA) wheel and a resin cubic boron nitride (CBN) wheel were investigated. First, effects of different grinding parameters on grinding temperature and ...
