Nov 22, 2003· Re: Polishing a prop I have a full suspension Cannondale mountain bike that was painted with Imron. I wanted to shave some weight so I stripped the paint. The Imron was really thick, I actually shaved a half pound of weight by stripping it. Of course, the bike looked like heck, so I decided to polish it (it is aluminum).

Often, we see propellers full of swirls of hairline scratches. These scratches indicate that propeller material has been removed which is not the purpose of polishing. From now on it will be easier for marine-growth to settle in the scratches and polishings will be needed more frequently. We perform a propeller polishing in 3-stages:

Apply Compound to Shaft. Step 4 – Remove the key and apply a liberal amount of valve grinding compound to the shaft and slather the area where the prop will sit. The process of lap-fitting your prop to the prop shaft taper makes certain both the shaft and prop mate together on the taper well leaving no high or low spots. By lap-fitting you achieve the maximum shaft to prop mating surface area.

Propeller Polishing. The aim of polishing a propeller underwater is to reduce the surface roughness caused by the build-up of marine fouling. A smooth propeller surface is inhospitable to marine organisms and enhances the efficiency of the propeller, in turn optimising the vessel's performance.

Filing Burrs The edge of a propeller's blade gets burred — or rolled over — when the prop rotates through sand. Up close, the prop may look finely saw-toothed right on the blade edge. By rubbing the tip of your thumb over the edge, you can feel the burr.

Propeller surface roughness Page 1 secondary effect of marine growth to be suffered until such time as the propeller is properly cleaned. Impingement attack usually occurs at the leading edges and outer parts of the propeller blades where the circumferential velocities are highest. The effect on the blades is a widespread area of surface

Mar 12, 2019· Now I would like some help for those who practice polishing propellers or metals. To sharpen I have no problems. When I get the new propeller balancers I believe I will not have problems (to do normal, nothing compared to experts in the field). But the polishing I'm messing with ugly. I bought a micro grind Dremel and some polishing accessories.

Apr 24, 2012· ship is given. The propellers were cleaned by one of the ship's crew who was a diver, using a rotating brush alone - no grinding or polishing disc was required. As the propellers are often cleaned, the fouling was not very heavy so both propellers could be cleaned in a total of 40 minutes. The resultant fuel savings were calculated at 6 per cent.

Grinding and polishing of stainless steel boat propellers: These are castings that undergo a drag grinding process in one machine followed by a polishing step in a second drag finisher. This polishing is done with a grinding disk and can be quite damaging to the propeller. By the very fact of using a grinding disk, a substantial amount of metal is removed from the propeller itself. This can alter the shape and efficiency, cause roughness and increase rather than reduce friction.
